Life at John Forrest Secondary College

A comprehensive and structured learning experience is offered at John Forrest Secondary College, focusing on literacy, numeracy, critical thinking and problem-solving. Under the guidance of a pathways program coordinator, students receive detailed career advice and subject selection support, ensuring they choose pathways that align with their future goals. Students can select from ATAR courses for university entrance, general courses for alternative pathways, or vocational education and training (VET) qualifications, which provide industry-recognised certifications. 

For students pursuing careers in plumbing and gas fitting, painting, and decorating, or building construction trades, the college has a dedicated trade training centre on campus. Pre-apprenticeship and Certificate I and II pathways are available, and upon completion, students earn a nationally recognised qualification endorsed by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. 

The college staff maintain strong partnerships with universities, industry groups, and training providers, ensuring students have access to external learning opportunities, industry placements, and workplace experiences that enhance their future career prospects. 

Support for students 

John Forrest Secondary College staff are committed to ensuring that all students feel supported, valued, and confident in their learning journey. The student wellbeing team provides a support network, offering academic guidance, career counselling, and pastoral care to help students succeed in and beyond the classroom. For students requiring additional English language support, the college offers English as an additional language or dialect (EALD) program, helping develop language proficiency and academic confidence.
